SEVEN NEW INFOCOMM PACKAGES HELP
SMEs STAY COMPETITIVE

June 18, 2008 [Singapore] DP Bureau today announced seven new tailor-made packages to help SMEs use technology to stay competitive. DP Bureau is a one-stop business advisory centre for entrepreneurs and business owners.

The offers are part of the SME Infocomm Package (SIP) introduced by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). The seven packages entitle SMEs to substantial savings as well as a subsidy. The subsidy is available if it is the first time an SME is investing in a web presence and is available to the first 5,000 SMEs on a first come first served basis.

Ms Ong Siew Kim, General Manager of DP Bureau said SMEs that use the packages will have a technological edge that can help their businesses succeed.

“In today’s fiercely competitive world every SME should be making full use of technology to stay competitive. These SME Infocomm Packages are an efficient and affordable way for SMEs to get the technology they need to stay ahead of the game.”

“The seven packages target SMEs with different needs across different industries. Four are focused on providing the essential infrastructure required for using technology in a business – website development and hosting, domain names and broadband internet access.”

“The other three packages are designed to meet the technological needs of companies in the retail, trading and services sectors.”

“For example, the Retail Sector package offers sophisticated point-of-sale equipment, the Services Sector package includes accounting software, while the Trading Sector package comes with accounting and inventory management software,” Ms.Ong said.

The 2008 Start-Up Enterprise Survey – conducted by DP Bureau’s parent company, DP Information Group – identified a clear link between the use of technology and higher net profit.

The survey found 50% of those generating a net profit of $200,000 to $500,000 were highly dependent on technology. For companies earning more than $500,000 net profit, 35% are highly dependent on technology. Conversely, 37% of companies with low levels of technology reliance are making losses.

Mr Yu Shu Huai, director of Hai Yang Cultural Arts & Development Centre is one of the first SMEs in Singapore to sign up an SME Infocomm Package. After discussing his business needs with DP Bureau staff, Mr Yu opted for the Web Customised package.

“This package and the government grant enables IT-illiterate people like me to establish a company website with ease. It allows me to create brand awareness and increase my competitiveness. I appreciate the personalized service and value-for-money package offered by DP Bureau”, Mr.Yu said.

To qualify for a subsidy, an SME must have at least 30% local shareholding and less than $15 million in assets. In addition, non-manufacturing companies must have fewer than 200 employees.
